Love this and saved it on bluprint. Is there a cheaper alternative to the love fest fiber skein? Thanks
flaxandtwine says
Hi – the Love Fest Fiber skein works well because it’s stiff. YOu can go to your local craft store and look for a thick yarn. It will be floppier, but the technique will still work. Look for a yarn with the category Jumbo.
Paige says
How many yards would be required for a project like this?
Thanks,
Paige
flaxandtwine says
It depends what yarn you are using. This specific project with this specific yarn uses a 55 yard ball of Love Fest Fibers Felted wool.
Courtney Cosgriff says
Is the pattern pretty easy to follow where I could easily half it if I don’t want that big of a basket?
flaxandtwine says
HI Courtney, Yes! you just stop earlier. you can make it as tall or as narrow as you want. You just need to use a different sized mold!

Hello! I am super excited to take this class but the detailed instructions are not availiable on bluprint. The PDF is not an active link. Is there another place I can find it? Thanks!
flaxandtwine says
HI Katie, I’m so sorry about that!! I can only send it out if you buy a kit from me in the shop (www.flaxandtwineshop.com). Otherwise, you would need to contact Bluprint about the PDF link not working.
Katie says
Thanks so much for your help! I will let Bluprint know .

Is the yarn piece you weave with (not the warp) a very long piece? I don’t remember in the video how low it has to be. How do you weave that piece inwards to finish? I’m going to try this with another fabric, with tshirt yarn. Since it’s thinner and I want a big basket, how do I attatch another string to the one I was working with when I run out? Thanks
flaxandtwine says
Hi. yes the weft piece is very long. I basically make it as long as I need to do the whole basket. If you watch the video, it will show you how to weave in the ends! You would do the same thing if you are changing to another length of yarn in the middle of it.

Hi, I would like to purchase this kit but honestly would prefer the basket to be bigger.
I’m thinking at least 14 inches wide (even 16) and 14 to 16 inches high.
Can you suggest how much yarn I need?
FYI: I am very beginner knitter .
Also when will the grey yearn be available?
flaxandtwine says
Hello Patriziz, You can definitely do your basket 14 inches or 16 inches. I would double the amount of yarn, and obviously start with a larger bucket mold. The gray yarn should be available by the end of the week.
Thanks!

Hi, I purchased a kit & I’m trying the bluprint subscription for a month. I have a question, via the bluprint video and the written instructions I can’t figure out the reason for #10 & #11 steps “changing the weft piece. The video almost seems to show that the weft piece is not changed and the twined rope bowl in your book, which I have done, I don’t recall changing the weft piece. Is there any reason for changing the weft piece in this basket? Is there purpose to cutting it in half? Why couldn’t I just continue the entire weft through the basket without cutting it? I can’t really understand from the instructions, pictures, or video the technique in how it’s weaved back in. I appreciate any help that you could provide. Thank you! -Leah

Thanks so much for your comment. I did cut the weft piece for the felted basket because the length is much more overwhelming in that fiber, and can be really hard to handle. Plus, it’s good to learn how to weave the weft ends in and start a new piece. If you can do the basket without cutting the weft and it doesn’t drive you nuts, I say do it!! It’s definitely better to do it in one length so you don’t have to weave in ends etc. Have fun!

HI, I would love to purchase this kit. Is the video available elsewhere now that Bluprint has shut it’s doors?
Thanks!
flaxandtwine says
Hi Teresa,
I’m not sure if I can share the video without it being on bluprint. Maybe I’ll do a new one? It will be more detailed than the bluprint one as well.

Thanks for your reply. That sounds great! I am looking forward to that being available–it looks like a great project.
