Easter and Passover

Well, I had a fabulous technology-free weekend. My phone stayed up in my office for the entire weekend. You can take the technology out of my hand, but that won’t keep me from my camera. I couldn’t help it. I ended up bringing that camera everywhere, just like it was my phone. Is that a technology addiction too? or is that just good ol’ artist wanting to collect the gorgeous colors, textures and evolving moments all around me. It started with a trip to the grocery store, where I couldn’t help but be stunned by the yummy green-ness and texture of these spring veggies. I think artichokes are such a beautiful food.
And, the insides . . . even cooler.
And, then, the asparagus . . .
and the green beans . . . yum. I never noticed how green and textured spring veggies are.
Not only did we celebrate Easter this weekend, but we also hosted a Passover seder at our house. We have wonderful Jewish friends that were nice enough to lead us in the seder and introduce Passover traditions to my family. My husband’s father, Roman (pappy to the kids), is Jewish as well and was in town visiting for the weekend.
Without my phone in hand, I made a special effort to really connect with the kids, making sure to look them in the eye,

and really listen to what they had to say.

I even paid special attention to my hubby and the dog (an oft neglected passtime).

I think being phone-less made for a calmer, more enjoyable weekend than usual. I was more attentive and present and even managed to stay calm when Allie spilled ketchup on her dress at the Easter BBQ.

We loved having Pappy in town. I was lucky to have a close relationship with my grandmother and I want to give my kids the same opportunity with their grandparents. It’s hard when none of the grandparents live in town, so special thanks to Pappy who always makes a huge effort to visit.

Lots of fun and festivities. We were sad to see it come to an end.

I hope you all enjoyed your holiday weekend as well, whatever you were celebrating. Happy spring!

New tutorials coming this week, so stay tuned!

Modeling for our Children in a Technology Driven World

I’ve been thinking a lot about technology and how it influences our life as a family. We don’t watch TV, other than the occasional sports game or movie. I’m rather proud of that – no TV blaring a...

Hidden Kisses - a leather and yarn diy bracelet

I’ve been on a mission to create more fun jewelry that my boys would like to wear. I’ve mentioned this before, but I dig it when boys wear bracelets (and rings!). My daughter loved this bracele...
